Celestial Jukebox

unlimited audio on demand
In 1999, after DSL and Cable became viable, I developed a "celestial jukebox" receiver that plugs into your stereo and allows you to select any song on demand from a catalog of over three million tracks - virtually every published work in the western world. The system has an artificial intelligence DJ, so you don't have to select every track manually. Just tell the system a few examples of what you like using the remote control (with LCD screen and touch or pen input) and the system will dynamically create an uncannily accurate playlist. You can "edit" the selection by rating and skipping songs with a single touch. The prototype system is complete, but production manufacturing will have to wait until the tech financial markets recover and the RIAA's strategy of suing every new company that emerges in an attempt to intimidate and thwart real innovation is curbed by decisive court rulings, legislative action, or international trade agreements. (I believe that ultimately, the backlash from their outrageous Mafiosi-style strong-arm campaign will ultimately fail). In the meantime, enjoy the list here on Independent Media. IM will soon have an interface for publishing your own program using pointers to RealAudio streams, with a method of chaining URLs together for continuous play. Stay tuned.
